Emojional Series: Understanding Anger

We just kicked off our new sermon series, Emojional, where we’re unpacking some of the Bible’s most powerful and misunderstood emotions—starting with anger. If you missed the sermon, you can watch below.

In Ephesians 4:26–27, Paul writes: "Be angry, and do not sin: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil." This verse doesn't shy away from anger—it acknowledges it but sets clear boundaries: we can be angry, but we must not let anger control us or lead us into sin.

During the message, we explored different kinds of anger: righteous anger that can motivate us to fight injustice, explosive anger that tears relationships apart, bitterness that poisons the heart, and even self-anger that paralyzes us. Each type has its own dangers and opportunities.

We also looked at how Jesus demonstrated righteous anger—driving out the money changers from the temple—yet He never let anger control Him. He showed us that anger, when handled God’s way, can lead to justice and healing rather than division and destruction.

Key Takeaways:

  • Anger is natural, but it must be managed with grace and truth.

  • We must not let anger fester overnight—unresolved anger gives the enemy a foothold in our lives.

  • God invites us to bring our anger to Him and seek His wisdom to respond rightly.

Reflection:
Is there any anger I’ve been holding onto that needs to be released?
Am I responding to anger in a way that honors God and builds others up?
